Mayor Karl Dean has been a huge proponent and innovator of Nashvillians getting healthier! Whether it's the Walk 100 miles with the Mayor, or the 26 miles of new bike-ways that go from Percy Priest to West Nashville, we have a lot going on!
This Sunday is the Mayor's Challenge 5k, a 3.1 mile run walk, and it's FREE! This is a comfortable family get together. If you want to run the 5k as fast as a rocket, go ahead. If you want to walk or run at your own pace, bring it! We start and finish at Public Square Park, downtown by the Metro Courthouse.
Check out the route. All through downtown.
There's also a Kids run that begins at 2p, and the 5k starts at 2:15p. You can ride an MTA bus for FREE when you tell them you are going to the 5k.
Bring your non-perishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Register for the Mayor's Challenge here.
Check out this app. It's called Nashvitality. Inside this app there are interactive maps for all types of activities including walking, hiking, biking, water access, and much more. Plus, learn about how to be greener with tools such as where to recycle or what incentives are available to be more energy efficient.
Here's your info for the FREE app.

Mayor Dean was featured on 'Weight of the Nation' on HBO. The documentary talks about a generation of folks being overweight, and Mayor Dean is featured with some of our innovative exercise ideas for the city.
Come on out this Sunday for one of those great ideas, the Mayor's Challenge 5k! Remember, it's FREE.
