Neil Young, The Black Crowes and more get together for The inaugural Interlocken Music Festival will take place Sept. 5-8 at Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Va. Between the lineup and the credentials of the organizers, it could possibly be one of the main events of the summer for lovers of jam bands.

Although the full lineup has yet to be announced, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Furthur and the Black Crowes are among the big names, with the String Cheese Incident also topping the bill. The press release announcing the festival also promises that "many of the artists will be performing at Interlocken over multiple days, and will be featured in unique and exciting artist pairings.”Bands will perform two-hour sets, with the music running continuously between the two stages. 

The festival will also be environmentally conscious, with carbon offsetting and recycling initiatives planned. Food and drink options, and other amenities, will be provided by companies from throughout Central Virginia.

The seven-song 1973 Allman Brothers Band‘Brothers and Sisters’ album is the focus of a new box set set to hit stores this summer. The group is celebrating the 40th anniversary with a release that’s expected to include significant bonus material.

Like many recent re-releases, the Allman’s box set will be available in several configurations. Sources say there will be a four-CD Super Deluxe, two-CD Deluxe and single-CD standard edition. There will also be digital and vinyl editions available for the June 25 release.

Bonus features have yet to be announced, but it is rumored that a famous show from the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, Calif. in Sept. 1973 will be included.

‘Brothers and Sisters’ includes  ‘Ramblin’ Man’ as well as concert favorites like ‘Southbound’ and ‘Jessica.’ This was the first complete album the Allman Brothers Band recorded after the death of guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley, although Oakley appears on the first three songs (‘Wasted Words,’ ‘Ramblin’ Man’ and ‘Come and Go Blues’). Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams made their debut with the group on ‘Brothers and Sisters.’

Together with Warner Music, the Doors have launched an interactive app exclusive to the iPad that will offer fans the chance to join the group on a fully interactive journey including music, videos, previously unpublished photos and more.

The Doors App is the brainchild of Jac Holzman, the man responsible for having signed the group to Elektra Records, and includes full participation from the surviving members of the group as well as the estate of deceased vocalist Jim Morrison.

“The genesis of this project began with a desire to digitize the boxed set, to use new technology to improve upon a much-loved fan experience. Among the most notable features of the app is ‘The Story,’ a historic look back at the band including details of Morrison having been falsely accused of exposing himself during a 1969 concert in Miami. Also included is a once-confidential FBI report, the report of Morrison’s arrest, his mug shot and the posthumous pardon issued to the singer in 2010.

The Rolling Stones kicked off their 50 & Counting tour this past Friday night (May 3rd) at the Staples Center in L.A. . The 23-song set featured  tunes from across the band's 50 year career. The highlights of the show -- which was preceded by the UCLA Bruins marching band playing "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" -- was undoubtedly the Stones' live premiere of 1980's "Emotional Rescue," and the band's first performance since 1997 of the Beggars Banquet acoustic classic, "Factory Girl."

Pollstar reported the concert was preceded by a film featuring such famous friends and fans as Martin Scorsese, Johnny Depp,  and Cate Blanchett talking about their love for the Stones. During the show, Mick Jagger gave a shout out to Jack Nicholson and joked about the band switching its opening night to accommodate the basketball playoffs, saying: "It was either us or the Lakers, so now you got us. It doesn't matter to Jack Nicholson."

• As he had during the band's previous 50th anniversary shows, Jagger poked fun of the exorbitant $600-plus price-tag of the Stones' current concerts, which ensured all but a deep-pocketed white collar crowd finding their way into the venue, joking with the crowd: "Hello Los Angeles! Or should I say 'Hello, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and certain parts of Santa Monica?'"
• Special guests included former guitarist Mick Taylor's single guest spot on "Midnight Rambler," Gwen Stefani  (what a joke) who apparently barely knew the song -- duetting with Jagger on "Wild Horses," and country star Keith Urban sitting in on the band's Some Girls rocker, "Respectable.
