Section of I-440 to Close for 10 Weekends for Concrete Repairs
Closures Will Complete Current I-440 Rehabilitation Project
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will completely close a one mile section of I-440 Eastbound between I-65 and I-24 in Nashville for ten weekends starting later this month for major concrete repairs.
The repairs are part of a $9.7 million project to widen this stretch of I-440 Eastbound. The weekend closures will allow the concrete work to be completed on an accelerated schedule. Otherwise, repairs would require lane closures over a period of several months. During the weekend closures, crews will jackhammer and remove large sections of deteriorating concrete as much as a foot deep. Once the new concrete is poured, it will have to harden for several hours. The travel lanes will then be re-striped before reopening to traffic.
The first closure of I-440 East from I-65 to I-24 is scheduled to take place Friday, June 28th at 9:00 p.m. through Monday, July 1st, at 5:00 a.m.
The next nine interstate closures are tentatively planned for the following weekends:
July 12th – July 15th
July 19th – July 22nd
July 26th – July 29th
August 2nd – August 5th
August 9th – August 12th
August 16th – August 19th
September 6th – September 9th
September 13th – September 16th
October 11th – October 13th
