America Is No Longer The World's Fattest Nation

America Is No Longer The World's Fattest Nation

A new report from the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization says that the U.S. is no longer the world's fattest developed nation, having been beaten out for the dubious honor by Mexico.

Among Mexican adults, 32.8 percent are considered obese, edging out the U.S., where it's 31.8 percent. Syria is third at 31.6 percent, and Venezuela and Libya are tied for fourth at 30.8 percent. Contributing to Mexico's obesity rate is its urban lifestyle and rising income levels coupled with malnourishment among the country's poor. On the other end of the scale, Japan is the thinnest developed country, where just 4.5 of Japanese adults are considered obese.
