As part of his much-publicized return to the top of Disney, Bob Iger is not shying away from sequels as part of his master plan. The “new” CEO recently announced a number of beloved films that will get new chapters in their respective franchises.

“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises,” revealed Iger. “Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. (These are) great example(s) of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.” While Iger seems to suggest this move is a bold one, some suggest it may have more to do with Disney’s recent box office failure.

“Strange World” mystified Disney by pulling in less than $74 million… around the world. At a time when the Big Mouse is looking to cut costs, insiders say Iger’s announcement could be more about playing it safe.
